ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD (by Skype, Zoom or Telephone)
Focusing and Dreams classes with Katarina Halm are an in-depth study of how to integrate the Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin Inner Relationship Focusing practice and theory with the philosophy in Gendlin’s Dream book and other relevant books and articles.
Arnold Mindell’s Practical and Theoretical Study of Dreams and the Body,
Inner Relationship Focusing®, and Eugene Gendlin’s Dream Book and the Philosophy of the Implicit
Gendlin’s Let Your Body Interpret Your Dreams continues to be our main text. This Focusing and Dreams series will include the supplementary texts by Arnold Mindel listed below.
The first hour of each class is devoted to an experiential development of the theory. A Focusing and Dreams session takes place during second hour, followed by a discussion.
Supplemental text #1: Arnold Mindel 1989, River’s way: the process science of the dreambody: information and channels in dream and bodywork.
This book presents the reader with the theoretical framework behind Arnold Mindell’s two earlier studies of the psychology of body experience, “Dreambody” and “Working With the Dreaming Body”. In bridging divisions between psychotherapy, medicine and physics, it provides both client and therapist with a flexible and integrative approach to the total personality, not simply an intellectual exercise and that successful therapy is the work of the “dreamer” as much as of the analyst.
In the second part of the book the author shows how mythological symbols of energy and time (Oceanos, Aion and the Kundalini) form the roots of modern concepts of process. The final chapter takes up and builds on Jung’s rediscovery of alchemy as the mother of modern medicine, psychology and physics. Mindell suggests that awareness itself might be the gold of the alchemists and that successful therapies are in part a discovery of the river’s way – the process of perception.
Supplemental text #2: Arnold Mindel 1985, Working with the Dreaming Body.
An introductory volume, unfolding Mindell’s worldview of the body as dreaming, flowing essence and its symptoms as doorways to the unknown–to the whole human being. Mindell says our symptoms of malaise may not be sickness in need of treatment but guides to a “royal road” of meaning and fulfillment.
In other books, he has developed his ideas of the dreambody, the inner voice trying to communicate with us through our dreams, body language, and relationships in order that we might live “as we are.” Here he demonstrates practical applications of this approach in work with clients, saying, “I don’t believe in therapy….I let the dreambody process tell me what wants to happen and what to do next….I do not press people. Their bodies and souls know better than I do.”
These classes are experiential and include Focusing and Dreams sessions. The series will support and compliment Janet Pfunder’s crossing of Ullman and Gendlin. Our primary resources are Gendlin’s writings on dreams, his Process Model, and Ullman’s development of Dream Appreciation. There is an online forum to further develop our dialogue. (The online forum and reading of texts by Gendlin, Ullman and other dreams scholars is optional.)
Offered by telephone and in-person.
Welcoming new students and those who wish to deepen your Focusing and develop your understanding of Gendlin’s Philosophy of The Implicit.

Feldenkrais basics and advanced training Attune to your very own movements and thinking as you develop your listening skills. Offer a precious service to your neighborhood and your world.
Meridian Focusing is a crossing of Focusing with two aspects of Taichi {Qigong and Tuina} that are the application of meridians. With these classes you will develop an embodied learning to tune in to your very own meridian pattern. You will sense which points and flows are most wanting to be practiced in depth at any particular time. Thus Meridian Focusing brings you more connection with your living process. Meridians then are avenues to your feltsensing and lead naturally to Focusing.

Testimonials
“Weʼve all been given advice to “sleep on it” hoping for clarity and direction the next morning. Now you can learn to “focus on it”. Using Gendlinʼs experiential process, Katarina Halm demonstrates how “Focusing and Dreams” can shift our awareness to a more receptive state of intuitive guidance. Dream focusing is a free-flowing, open, gentle and accepting approach to exploring all the possibilities associated with our creative work, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal
skills. As a student in Katarinaʼs class I have enjoyed learning how to cultivate the nuances of my dreams.”
” Thanks again for putting together this wonderful group, as well as for taking care of us in such an empathic way! I have also enjoyed very much having a companion during the week. All of them have been great.”
” I really have appreciated the class. It’s opened up a new way to do focusing for me and my focusing partner, Anne. I have appreciated getting to do dream focusing with so many interesting and capable persons and it has given me a deeper understanding of some of my dreams. I especially appreciated your guidance in the conference calls. I loved having pictures of the participants and I felt there was a presence in reflecting back what others had said which really enhanced the communication.”
“Katarina is a compassionate guide, giving space-full listening and interesting feedback connected to relevant articles. Her welcoming attitude embraces all members of the group and enhances working with dreams. Looking at dreams in this attitude enables them to become more and more meaningful, developing an insightful connection to real life.”
“Dreams can be an amazing resource in our lives, and are well worth learning about. In addition, Gendlin’s writing on dreams is an excellent bridge into the Philosophy of the Implicit; and Katarina is a excellent teacher, who approaches her subject with wonderful energy, sensitivity, and intelligence.”
“I am delighted that Katarina and her Focusing colleagues are supporting the experiential Gendlin/Ullman dream group process.”
