Help for Helpers
HELP FOR HELPERS is an online weekly gathering that was originally created as a response to the overwhelming stresses of pandemic life, especially for those in the helping professions. It developed into a flourishing, ever-growing wellspring of learning and connectedness.
WE ARE:
1. INTERNATIONAL, INCLUSIVE, WELCOMING
We prize the contributions of all those who attend.
2. FREE!
All the organizing and facilitating is donated.
3. COMMUNITY-ORIENTED
We are developing and expanding our project together.
4. DIVERSE
We encourage varied points of view and approaches woven together with respect, openness, and embodied listening.
5. ENRICHING
Each week, we have a reflection drawn from a wide variety of speakers and a broad spectrum of approaches (meditative, academic, personal, social/political, therapeutic) given by experienced teachers and those presenting their ideas for the first time.
6. PARTICIPATORY
‘The group focuses on and responds spontaneously to what is offered in the reflection. Focusing conversations are facilitated by the large group discussion and small breakout-room sharing.’

Poem
As players competing at Wimbledon enter the tunnel to Centre Court, surely one of the most famous landmarks in all of sport, they pass under two lines from Rudyard Kipling’s poem, “If”.
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster|
And treat those two impostors just the same
BIO: Rafael Villeta
What is most inspiring for my desire to live are the relationships, the connections that occur with those I work and live with, but also with my internal system, especially with the parts of me that need compassion and appreciation to awaken to their own healing. This statement reveals the great influence that Whole Body Focusing has on my present, because of the inquiries that Kevin McEvenue and I have been undertaking over the last few years. We explored what it is about relationships that foster exuberance in life. Internal Family Systems also provides me with a very concrete and practical methodology to assist my clients in their development of these connections that any person needs. During these last fifteen years I have been learning and practicing various disciplines of somatic dance, which is surely what is nurturing my sensitivity and my understanding of the body and movement. As a tennis coach for twenty-eight years I developed my Organic Tennis method integrating Focusing and somatic dance with the teaching of academic tennis. I define myself as a white male, dyslexic and visually handicapped, Focusing Oriented Therapist passionate about inner and outer connections, a deep enthusiast of movement and creativity as engines of healing processes. BIO: Kevin McEvenue
I speak of myself as an Alexander teacher and a Focusing Trainer and Coordinator. Whole Body Focusing seems to come together for me in my book called Dancing the Path of the Mystic, written over 30 years ago. Nowadays It seems to be as true as what I envisioned back then, only more deeply experienced and appreciated. Life is and always has been for me a search for meaning in who I am, who I meant to be, and my purpose in life. Whole Body Focusing seems to open a doorway beyond what was expected. It has led to a sense of Heartfelt Connection that enhances the welling on us, as well as a sense of participation in a larger sense of life itself where I feel a part. Connecting with the other I feel a sense of me! I am a part of, and I am a participant in this unfolding life itself right now. We seem to be part of an expansion of a human consciousness that is essential to our world today. More in wholebodyfocusing.com

☆. Honouring Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day on Monday January 20, 2025 with Yaotunde Obiora
DESCRIPTION:
Yaotunde Obiora Dibia will guide our reflections.
“No figure is more closely identified with the mid-20th century struggle for civil rights than Martin Luther King, Jr. His adoption of nonviolent resistance to achieve equal rights for Black Americans earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. King is remembered for his masterful oratorical skills, most memorably in his “I Have a Dream” speech.” –– NAACP Resource page for Dr. King’s legacy.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of hope, love, and resilience reverberates far beyond the confines of historic moments, reminding us that our collective progress is a shared responsibility. His legacy continues to inspire, educate, and guide generations of advocates dedicated to the pursuit of justice and equity through coordinated resistance. His groundbreaking efforts coupled with those of other civil rights leaders and activists fuelled the Civil Rights Movement and changed the course of history.” –– Macy L. Freeman From Selma to the Mountaintop: Exploring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
BIO: Yaotunde Obiora Dibia is a social worker who lives with Gutta, the cat, in a vibrant Dominican neighborhood in Manhattan. He is on the advisory council for Empty Cloud Monastery in New Jersey (https://buddhistinsights.org/
